There is certainly a profusion of wireless technology available and the amount is only likely to increase. For some people wireless data logging isn't necessary (or practical) but for a growing number, the line between logging, monitoring and controlling is becoming increasingly blurred and this is where wireless technology comes into its own.

We asked our clients to tell us what their top reasons for going wireless are and so, in no particular order, here are the results:

  • Using wireless loggers ensures my measurements are always taken at the right time and are recorded correctly
  • Alarms & exceptions are recorded and reported by email to my PC or smart device enabling me to act promptly
  • I can now monitor how my goods are stored out of hours
  • I'm able to easily share research data with other Universities and research groups
  • I have integrated the data into our existing data management software via FTP
  • I don't have to rely on external sources for access to my data as it's stored on my network (This benefit is not mutually exclusive, see below!)
  • I don't have to store my data locally and worry about backups etc as the results are automatically saved into the 'cloud'
  • I'm now able to place my loggers in uninhabitable spaces, or areas where space is a premium and regular access cannot always be guaranteed.
  • The data gathered is secure whilst being easily circulated to key personnel & decision makers
  • It cost much less to install the wireless system compared with a similar wired system.
  • Low on-going calibration costs for the wireless units.
  • Low cost replacement of sensors if they get damaged
  • The wireless system is battery powered and has on-board memory this proves invaluable in the event of power or network failures
  • Removes the chance of human error or malicious changing of readings taken
  • Graphs and tables of results can now be produced automatically by the data logging software
  • We can wirelessly record values including: Temperature, Flow, Pressure, level, Relative humidity, Voltage, Current, DC Current, Light level, Motor Speed, Wind Speed & Direction, CO2 levels, moisture  sensors  amongst others
  • Whatever your channel count, whatever distance you need to cover, there is undoubtedly a range of wireless products available.

Tempcon are leading system experts in data logging solutions and are the sole authorised distributor of Onset data loggers in the UK & Ireland.

We've implemented wireless systems: indoors for offices, schools, hospitals and public areas. We've also implemented longer range systems at large process plants, petrochemical sites, logistics warehouses, sports stadiums and University campuses.
