Monitor the precence of snow cover, via reflected light.

Related article: HOBO Light Loggers were used by a team from the University of Portsmouth to idenify snow-covered days on mount Kilimanjaro: "a downward facing Hobo Pendant light sensor measured reflected shortwave radiation. Values over 30,000 Lux (237 W/m2)  led to the day being classified as snow-covered."
