Riverside Housing Association use temperature and humidity data loggers from Tempcon

Monitoring temperature and humidity in domestic properties is fast becoming a priority for UK housing associations.

Damp and mould damage costs housing associations millions in repair bills each year and tenant behaviour represents a significant contributing factor. In houses with high energy efficiency ratings, low temperatures and lack of ‘free air flow’ can result in a build-up of moisture. As energy prices increase, many residents are reluctant to switch their heating on. Understanding the causes of damp and mould is paramount in developing effective prevention strategies. Using Data Loggers provides surveyors and housing associations with the necessary data to identify specific causes and in turn can be used to support appropriate prevention strategies.

Phil Glover, Head of Asset Services at Riverside, said:  “We wanted to monitor a number of different builds over a period of time and record humidity levels together with temperature and external environmental conditions. Tempcon were able to provide an indoor and outdoor data logger that was highly accurate and battery powered. In addition they were able to supply a large volume of these at short notice.”

Stephen Copeland, Director of Tempcon commented “We were delighted to be chosen by Riverside to supply the HOBO range of data loggers which are ideally suited to discreetly monitoring temperature and humidity.”

Riverside chose Onset’s HOBO UX100-003 to monitor indoor conditions and Onset’s HOBO U23-001 to monitor outdoor conditions.
